The Vivace Vilnius International Summer Music Festival and Masterclasses was established in 2012 by Lithuanian violinist Egle Jarkova during her undergraduate studies at Boston Conservatory. Her goal was to provide opportunities for promising musicians to advance their studies, and also to enliven the summer season in the historic city of Vilnius with world-class performances that could be accessible to all.

Students must competitively apply and audition for enrollment in Vivace Vilnius masterclasses, which are designed to improve both their technical and creative skills.  The Festival’s USA faculty members represent American musical culture and aesthetics to the Lithuanian students and audiences. These faculty and guest artists are leaders in the musical world with extensive experience as pedagogues, soloists, chamber musicians and orchestra members.

Now in its tenth year, the Vivace Vilnius International Summer Music Festival and Masterclasses has engaged 18 faculty members who have trained over 200 students. In addition, those students have performed alongside 13 guest artists at 28 free concerts and 2 outreach concerts.
These faculty, students and guest artists have represented 18 countries in all: Albania, Japan, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Venezuela.

In 2016, the young musicians of  the Vivace Vilnius Music Festival performed as guests at the international conference “Music and Music Therapy for Child and Adolescent Health”.  The conference, led by Dr. Lisa M. Wong, featured experts in music therapy and music medicine who explored current practices in the U.S. and Lithuania and offered workshops in the practice of music healing.

Public support, in both the United States and Lithuania, makes it possible to provide students with professional training and mentoring. In addition, performances by internationally known teaching artists are open to a wide range of audiences, regardless of their ability to pay. Contributions to the Vivace Vilnius Festival and Masterclasses are managed by KHS Boston Scholarship Fund, a U.S-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit fiscal agent, and are fully deductible.
