Where is Kimball High School, you may wonder. It was one of the first public high schools organized to educate the children of workers who migrated to McDowell County, West Virginia from the American South. Originally known as the Brown's Creek District High School, Kimball High School was supported by teachers, pastors, lawyers, doctors, and parents who  worked enthusiastically to ensure that its students were equally well-prepared for higher education or for work in the trades. The President of the West Virginia Collegiate Institute (now West Virginia State University) wrote in 1915 that community efforts "were the more praiseworthy, because they  carried with them no expectation of remuneration ..."

The establishment of district high schools was such a priority that Kimball attracted a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Harvard as its principal by 1921.
The Class of 1926 was addressed by W.E.B. DuBois, the preeminent educator, sociologist, and historian of the early 20th century.

For more than a century, the alumni, instructors and families of Kimball High School have honored this legacy and tradition of promoting wide access to education as a community service.  We offer Kimball scholarships to help Boston-area students with the cost of undergraduate education. We also provide information on other scholarships, college applications, college visits, financial aid, student loan forgiveness, and college prep programs - as well as job training, apprenticeships, free community college, certificate programs, and programs that promote economic advancement
.
This information is researched and shared as a community service.
